Frequently Asked Questions
How much will my wedding cost?
There is no simple answer to this question as it depends on so many different things such as the number of guests, requests for extra options such as beauty treatments, photographer, live music/DJ or special transport. It is possible to have a wonderful wedding in Rome and we will do everything we can to accommodate your wishes and give you the best value for money but you must be realistic when considering your budget.
Civil Weddings
As from Monday 20 April 2009 the fees as published by the Rome Anagrafe (Registry Office) for booking a civil wedding in Rome for foreigners and other non-residents of Rome are as follows:
Weekday weddings (Mon-Fri) – 1200 euros
Weekend weddings (Sat-Sun) – 1400 euros
To this will be added the following variable items:
Interpreter
Consulate fee for Nulla Osta
Official stamp fee
Agency fees
Any optional extras such as reception, photographer, hair/makeup, flowers, etc
Final prices will be given in GB Pounds Sterling.
Church Weddings
The cost of church weddings varies depending on which church is used and cannot be generalised.
Budget
To avoid disappointment please be realistic in the budget you give us to work with. For example, it’s not possible to have a wedding and reception for 100 people with a budget of only £7,500 - £10,000.
Will my Italian marriage be valid in the UK?
Yes.
Will I get a marriage certificate?
Yes. It is not the same format as a British marriage certificate but it is just as legal.
Can I get married in the Vatican?
Yes, but it is fraught with complications not the least of which is that the ceremony can be refused as late as the day on which it should happen. We will provide details of how to apply on request.
What paperwork do I need to provide?
If you are a British subject you will need to provide a Nulla Osta which is a Certificate of No Impediment. It will be provided by the British Consulate in Rome and states that you are free to marry. We will notify you of the documents required from you when you make your booking with us and we will process them for you.
For British subjects the documentation process under normal conditions takes around 1 month before we can apply for a wedding date for you. This includes approximately 15 days to obtain your Certificates of No Impediment from your local UK Registrar and the time it takes us to receive these and other documents from you in Italy, and to obtain your Nulla Ostas from the British Consulate. For other nationalities the process varies and timescales may differ.
What if either of us has been divorced?
A divorced person will need to supply, in addition to the standard documents required for the Nulla Osta, the original, plus a copy of the marriage certificate and the divorce decree absolute for all his/her previous marriages.
Under Italian law a female who has been divorced and wishes to re-marry in Italy cannot re-marry until 300 days have passed from the date of her divorce.
How long do we have to be in Rome before the wedding?
There is no legal requirement for you to be in Rome for any particular period prior to the ceremony but we would strongly advise that you allow at least a couple of days to finalise arrangements.
Can I wear an off-the-shoulder wedding dress for a church wedding?
It is necessary to cover your shoulders for a church wedding. This can be achieved simply by the wearing of a light jacket, shawl or veil that can be removed after the ceremony if desired. If in doubt please check with us.
How do we pay you?
Payment is accepted in £ Sterling only. You may pay by post with a cheque or by On-line Banking. If you pay through a non-UK bank you will be liable for any fees connected with the transaction.
What if we want to make a complaint?
You need to contact us in writing within 7 days of the ceremony if you have a complaint to make. We will make every effort to investigate the circumstances and recover any monies from suppliers if this is appropriate. We advise you to take out a Wedding Insurance policy to protect yourself from unforeseeable circumstances.
How long will it take to get our photographs and/or videos?
This varies from photographer to photographer and we will give you an idea once the photographer has been chosen.
What should we do about our wedding presents?
It may not be convenient for your guests to bring their gifts with them so you might like to suggest they have them sent to you at home prior to the wedding. If you wish, we will arrange for any gifts that you receive in Italy to be sent home for you by the safest, insured method. There will be a charge for this service over and above the cost of postage, packing and insurance.
